Christine Karkow :: Americana Inn, 2005

Local artist Christine Karkow works in drawing, digital imagery, sculpture, and paintings. This mixed media work of a Reno motel gets at the dark side of the American dream. The images of derelict Nevada casinos and motels are tied to her fascination of the western U.S. as a place where identities can be made or destroyed along with the dreams that accompany them. Karkow addresses myths of a good life and the physical and mental destruction of the land. This may be the Americana Inn that is located at the corner of 4^th and Lake Streets in Reno.
